band - ((THORLOCK)) interview with Luke, Kelty, & Shiv
February 2008
BP: What's crackin' guys?
Bzz Bzz I couldn't make that out Bzz Bzz (computer noises).
BP: So, Thorlock was created from the ashes (I presume) of the bands
Steerjockey and Rock Solid. Tell us about that, and if there's any plans to
continue with the former groups.
Who? Never heard of 'em.
BP: Have you three guys known each other for a while?
Our paths first crossed many centuries ago, but it was only recently at the Sikeston Bootheel Rodeo that we formed the alliance of ((THORLOCK)).
BP: Ok, let's talk about the band name and the ideas you had creating this band. Tell us about "Thorlock."
We were all bandless and bored. So we decided to get together and see what happened. Bands like Sleep, The Melvins, Deep Purple, and Black Sabbath were all big influences on our music. Thorlock was created as a way to combine those influences with a fantasy/sci-fi legend.
BP: I gotta admit - I was impressed by the few promo shots I've seen from you guys. I love the cloaks. Is the idea behind it, to match the sound with a look?
That, and it's an excuse to wear a dress.
BP: Do you guys use drop tuning? Seems alot of the sludgy/doomy type bands do these days.
We tune to our astrological signs... Which is difficult, because most of our shows are indoors.
BP: The band only has a few shows under its belt, but already has a fairly good buzz. Do you attribute that to recent established bands you guys were in, or do the tunes speak for themself?
Well, we try to keep a fairly good buzz as much as possible.
BP: Ok, as I sit and come up with these questions, it's January 1st, New Years Day. If Thorlock had three New Year's resolutions for 2008, what would they be?
((THORLOCK)) does not recognize your Earthly traditions or bank holidays. Our New Year is celebrated once every 3,000 of your Earth years. It is signified by the rising of a black moon and punctuated with the sacrifice of a cabbage.
BP: When might we expect a Thorlock hard copy recording?
SOON(tm)
BP: In the news a few weeks back, it was being reported that the RIAA is now considering ripping cd's to your computer "stealing", therefore it is illegal. What's your personal feelings on this whole RIAA thing? Are they going after defenseless kids just to make a point, or is there any validity to their actions (because we all know the big labels are starting to lose money on cd sales).
Our debut CD will come equipped with deadly lasers that will vaporize anyone who tries to copy or photograph it.
BP: Any shows coming up soon you want to mention?
Friday January 28th at Schock's Pub in Scott City with Fists of Phoenix and Warchalking
Thursday February 7th at Ragsdale's in Cape Girardeau with Fists of Pheonix
Saturday February 9th at The Enchanted Forest in Cape with TBA
Saturday February 23rd at Schock's Pub in Scott City with Dark Embrace and Taken 4 Granted
BP: Alright, anything else you'd like to talk about before we go?
"LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE!!"
BP: Thanks again for the interview. I hope the New Year brings much luck to Thorlock! Hope to see you guys soon!
((THORLOCK)) communication terminal out.
