Star Lillie
(Poet/Author)
Interview by J Sohn
December 2009
BP. How did you go about marketing yourself and the book idea to publishers?
SL. The usual way to get published is to have an agent but as I am far too poor to pay one.
I had to send samples of my work to various publishing houses and finally Usborne book
took me on .
BP. When did you decide you wanted to put out a book of your work?
SL. I had been toying with the idea for a long time but had no idea how to go about it. I had
entered a few in poetry comps and won a few things. So I decided to just bite the bullet and
try.
BP. What are some of your favorite bands or singers?
SL. I love Green Day, I went to see them in Hamburg this year and they are awesome live. I also
like Pink and a few bands that no one has heard of.
BP. If we got into your music collection would we find some CDs that you'd be ashamed of or embarrassed for having?
SL. Ashamed mostly! lol My taste in music is obscure to say the least. I like everything from Ella Fitzgerald to Iron Maiden.
BP. Who would you list as some of your favorite writers and have they influenced you and your style in any way?
SL. Again? Oh dear. lol My fave author is Richard Laymon (horror) but I read pretty much anything I can get my hands on. I like Thomas Harris, Marrion keys and Dante.
Erm how have they influenced me? Dante is perhaps more of the influence than any one because in the divine comedy books and many of his letters you can see in both English and Italian how important the rhythm of the words are.
BP. Is there anything else you'd like to tell us? Perhaps give yourself a plug or rant about anything in particular?
SL. I’m not a very good self promoter. lol But, the reactions from early releases have all been good, my work has been described as powerful and heartrending, not sure that the last one is good. Lol
BP. Thank you for your time Star, we look forward to the book release!
