Ireyerta burst upon the scene last year with a small amount of buzz

and some very energetic live perfomances. And with a band name

like Ireyerta, and its members looking more like high school students

rather than a road-tested, tatooed, drunken metal band, you may not

know what to expect at first. However, at first listen, all your

preconceived notions are thrown out the window. Their music is

dense and complex yet goes from intense and brutal to technical and

precise, to melodic and quirky. A surprising and refreshing mix from a Southeast Missouri band.

Their debut effort is 'Echoes of Jubbleen'. It includes five powerful tracks which should usher in a strong local reputation for the band . The tracks have decent sound quality, and show a slightly different vibe than their live shows. Ireyerta's live shows are a little looser and more raw than the cd, but even more intense. It's a great mix of technicality and brutality.

In Your Tower  is a fantastic opener, displaying the band's brutality and harmony. Rules are Rules is more of a straight-ahead kick you in the balls track, but also has a surprising amount of groove. Very catchy riffs are on display on Finality and This Emotion (my favorite tracks), along with some brief but impressive solos. On the cd's closer, A New Day, the band does a nice job varying the tempos, going from breakneck-packed insanity to a moderate and groovy pace. But come on Craig, we need more blast beats buddy....

The vocals on the cd aren't the usual low-pitched death metal growls. Not that the band or this cd is death metal per se, but you would honestly expect more growling and less harmonizing from an unsigned hardcore metal band. And no, that isn't such a bad thing whatsoever, and this cd proves it. Daniel Ferrell does a hell of a vocal job on this cd, and the rest of the guys just make him sound better. They all did a terrific job recording the cd (at Corduroy Boy Studios btw...).

Ireyerta is a talented young band, and 'Echos of Jubbleen' is a solid EP to wet the fans appetites until the next full-length of original material, hopefully coming very soon.
