band - Black Label Society interview with Nick Catanese
(Nick Catanese, Guitarist for Black Label Society)
I'd like to thank Nick for the interview first off. Yours truly has been a big fan of BLS since day
one, so it was a pleasure getting to talk to him. The interview is short, sweet, and to the point -
perhaps a reflection of the band itself....
-Randy Mallett, BannedPromotions.com (January 2008)
RM: So tell me Nick, what's it like working with Zakk?
NC: Well it's like Emperor and Darth Vader. I'm learning from the master!
RM: What's been some of your favorite tours and favorite artists you've shared the
stage with over the past several years?
NC: Sabbath, Judas Priest, Maiden, Slayer, Ozzy, ...made so many great friends out of this
experience.
RM: Any drunken road stories to speak of, or is that every night on tour?
NC: Lol, well there is always "condiment ball," where the pitcher pitches ketchup, mustard, mayo,
hot sauce and you hit it, gets pretty messy but fun, lol.
RM: Haha. What's your relationship like with Ozzy?
NC: I met Ozzy in 2003. He is THE coolest guy ever. No ego, no attitude.... all of these rockstars that give you the half-ass handshake and dont even look you in the eye sucks. Without your fans you are nothing!! I always say if Ozzy doesn't have an ego nobody should!
RM: Does BLS plan to get back in the studio after the tour?
NC: In the fall, a new cd is in the works.
RM: If you don't mind me asking, what happened between you guys and Roadrunner Records last year?
NC: No clue, I just play guitar, lol.
RM: Can we assume that BLS will remain independent for the coming years?
NC: Again ---------> guitar player.
RM: Alright, alright haha. You were also included in the film Rock Star. That must have been pretty cool....
NC: That was awesome getting to see how movies are made, doing the soundtrack, jamming with Zakk, Jason Bonham, Jeff Pilson, and so many cool people. It was a great fucking time.
RM: I read that you have a new project with Mike of Queensryche. Can you tell us more about that, and when we might expect a studio album or tour?
NC: It's called SPEED X. It's me, Mike Stone on bass and lead vocals, Mike Froedge from DoubleDrive. If you go to www.myspace.com/speedxband, you can see and hear a glimpse.
RM: Here's your free space to rant/ramble/spew/shamelessly promote/talk shit/etc.....
NC: Mary had a little lamb, little lamb, little lamb, lol.
RM: Alright, thanks so much for the interview man, and say hey to Zakk and the crew for us.
NC: Hope to see you guys soon! See all of you soon! And may the force be with you...
